Sandstone Facade Restoration Project, Fremantle

Bryan Stralow, stone carver, creates indents for local contractor as part of the contract agreement with the stonemasonry firm undertaking the project.

As they had mostly experience in the tuck pointing business, stone indents, let alone template cutting was an overreach for the contractor. As I was already in town with the new Perth Childrens’ Hospital, the John Holland megaproject, I decided to help out by setting up the off site banker shop and ran the sequence of fabrication of approximately 300 indents.

All in all, despite their lack of experience and due to previous councils mostly knocking down the old stone sector of Fremantle, the contractor did work sufficiently enough to make good with the fixing and general cleansing of the facade units.
